Love the Land

Volunteer Projects and Crews

Everything we have and experience at the sanctuary is because of everybody's contributions. Countless people unite to create an ecosystem that nourishes and supports itself.

If you're interested in supporting our vision, please sign up to any of the following projects and timelines, or considering making a donation towards one of the projects - please email Melanie directly at rosseau.sanctuary@gmail.com.
May 3-5
Seeking sponsorship team of 8-10 strong people who are in sync with one another and would enjoy the sacred task of landscaping our driveway into a beautiful shade-loving food forest with boulders, rich soil, a meandering trail, and bench. Team works with our Stewards, Joe, Tracy, and Olivier. Great for a men's circle, or private spiritual community to deepen their bonds and symbolically create a foundation for growth together. No experience necessary - we have the leadership and the vision to support you - but we need strength, power, and financial support to make it happen. Cost of foundation: $2000 (boulders and soil) and 2-3 days of labour for 8-10 people. Trees and shrubs: $1000 (planting will occur the following week). Tractor, excavator, and delivery of boulders to be done in advance.

April 13th-15th

We are looking at a wood delivery in April, and bringing wood to the Steward homes as well as filling our wood shelter for the following winter. Our gazebo down by the river needs to have its canvas mended / replaced, and then put up. In addition, any preparations that are needed to prepare for the healing earth lodge and vision quests in April-May are completed at this time. Cost of wood: about $2500-3000

May 9th-19th
The Spring Crew is an opportunity for all Members, Volunteers, and Stewards to come together to weave our hearts and minds with the season's demands. Spring is all about preparing and nourish the land for growing, the structures for holding, and our relationships with one another to sustain us over the coming months.  The Spring Crew this year will focus on staining and completing the cabins, tending the labyrinth, working on trails, creating and planting our forest guilds, stacking wood to dry for the winter, and chopping wood for outdoor ceremonial fires. Cost of stain for 2 10x10 structures: about $800. Planting our food forests: $3000-4000 (soil, shrubs, plants and trees). A more detailed budget is being drafted.

June (TBD)
In June, the bugs are pretty tremendous outside so we use the time to focus on smaller volunteer projects to focus on indoor improvements. We are hoping to improve our kitchen with a new fridge and cabinet area, finishing edges in the dorm area, painting our hearth, and possibly laying floor in the basement. Seeking carpenters and builders with an eye for design to help us draft a plan and budget and complete the work.

July 26-August 1st
The Summer "Love the Land" is like our Spring crew - though in this one our big push is to tend the trails and garden, and of course get everything done so we are ready for winter. A more detailed list to follow.

October 11-12
Before the snow comes, we need to take down and store any and all canvas structures (eg., gazebo at the river), ensure the heat stripping is on the roof, and our chimney is cleaned. Chimney cleaning: $1000; Heat Stripping job: $2000.
